NetXL are proud to announce ourselves as the first UK-based supplier for the new Ubiquiti Dream Machine (UDM). A four-in-one WAP, UniFi Controller, Security Gateway and 4-port Gigabit Switch, all arbitrated by a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, this little beauty is as close to a completely integrated networking solution as one can get. For SME and home users serious about the strength, integrity and security of their network, what might have required four separate networking components can now be achieved with one. Notably, at a projected combined price of almost £500, the UniFi Dream Machine offers the same functionality for about half the price. NetXL are pleased to bring you such an exciting, powerful and aesthetic product at an affordable price.
A Closer Look
The true power of the UniFi Dream Machine becomes apparent when you take a closer look at its individual functions. When you understand that the UDM provides the power and functionality of the UniFi Security Gateway, Cloud Key Controller Gen 2, a 4-port Gigabit Switch and a UAP-NanoHD, it really becomes apparent just how much this little unit can do for you. Security
Straight out of your modem and into the Dream Machine, your connection is already being fed through the Dream Machine’s Security Gateway. A router with advanced security features built-in, your network will benefit from advanced Intrusion Prevention and Detection Systems (IPS and IDS) with advanced firewall and persistent threat management. Additionally, the UDM’s VPN server will secure and encrypt your private data as you’re browsing. Keep your data safe and your devices secure with the Dream Machine’s enterprise-level security.
Switch
Once data packets have been safely routed to your network via the Security Gateway of the UDM, they can now be passed to individual devices. Each of the UDM’s four ports supports Gigabit throughput speeds, so wire any device directly to the UDM and you can be sure you’ll achieve maximum possible performance. Expand your network by connecting additional access points like the UniFi UAP AC Pro to extend this capability throughout your home or office space. Do bear in mind, though, that the UDM’s ports do not provide PoE, so any device requiring PoE (including the majority of Ubiquiti WAP’s) will require a separate PoE injector.
WAP
Connecting to the UDM via ethernet is not a necessity, though, and neither are additional access points since the UDM itself is a wireless access point with serious bragging rights. The UDM offers the new industry standard in WiFi radio communications with 802.11ac Wave 2. Its 4x4 MU-MIMO (multi-user, multi-input multi-output) capabilities offer advancements akin to those of a four-lane highway over a single lane country road. With home and office WiFi use more demanding than ever as users utilise 4k video streaming, syncing of large video and photo files to the cloud, low-latency gaming and HD VoIP audio for voice calls, often simultaneously, a sub-standard solution is really no solution at all. For the Dream machine, the traffic from demanding home users or high-density enterprise environments is no issue at all and, when the time comes to expand your network further, you have a scalable environment via the four-port Gigabit switch. Simply connect your WAPs of choice or an additional switch for true expansion.
UniFi Controller
As if all of the above were not enough, the UDM shares the functionality of the Cloud Key Gen 2 by sitting-in as a dedicated device running the UniFi controller. Though the controller can be accessed in software-form via desktop download, if you want your network to be running, syncing and updating 24/7, you need the controller to be running around the clock. Running the UniFi controller on a PC without a break will drain resources and make simple operations like a restart more of a hassle than is necessary. The UDM solves these issues by enabling around-the-clock network control in a compact, elegant and aesthetic form factor. Moreover, the additional layer of separation and, therefore, security, between your devices and the network controller ensures that, if one device becomes compromised, access to the network controller is much more difficult since it does not sit locally on the device. Note: as a controller in its own right, the UDM cannot be adopted to an already existing controller, so bear this in mind if you have an existing network controller set up already.
Wrap Up
The UDM offers a multi-faceted networking solution in an elegant and compact form factor. If you are a home or enterprise user in need of such a solution then look no further. Buy your UniFi Dream Machine today.
